About ForgeDocs
ForgeDocs is an all-in-one Astro Starlight theme built for founders, indie developers, and small teams who need a complete content system — not just a landing page.
One purchase gives you a landing page, documentation, and a blog in a single Astro project. No stitching three templates together. No paying for separate licenses. No rebuilding the same setup every time you start a new product.
Why ForgeDocs Exists
Most Astro themes fall into one of two categories:
- Landing page templates — beautiful, but they stop at the marketing site.
- Documentation templates — functional, but they don’t help you sell anything.
Very few themes cover both. And almost none include a blog with proper SEO, pagination, and tag support out of the box.
So we built one.
ForgeDocs started as an internal tool for our own projects. We kept rebuilding the same setup — landing page here, docs there, blog somewhere else — and kept hitting the same problems:
- SEO metadata was inconsistent across pages.
- Design systems clashed when mixing templates.
- Content was scattered across different schemas.
- Updates meant editing files in three different places.
After the fifth rebuild, we decided to package it properly. That package became ForgeDocs.
What ForgeDocs Includes
ForgeDocs ships with four core systems:
Landing page — Hero, feature grid, pricing table, CTA, and footer. Every section pulls from JSON data files, so you edit content in one place and it updates everywhere.
Starlight documentation — Powered by Astro Starlight. Sidebar, table of contents, full-text search, and custom layouts included. Docs are written in Markdown or MDX.
Blog system — Post list with pagination, tag filtering, detail pages, and related posts. Write in Markdown, and the rest is handled automatically.
Static pages — About, FAQ, Terms, Privacy, Contact. Managed through a single content collection with dynamic layouts.
You also get:
- A JSON-driven content architecture — no hardcoded copy in components.
- Light and dark mode with system preference detection.
- SEO setup with Open Graph, Twitter cards, canonical URLs, and sitemap.
- Optional Decap CMS integration for editing content from an admin panel.
- A Bootstrap + custom CSS design system that stays consistent across all pages.
Our Vision
We want ForgeDocs to be the default starting point for anyone launching a documentation-heavy product on Astro.
Not because it’s the flashiest theme. Not because it has the most features. But because it’s the one that saves the most time — and gives you a system you won’t outgrow in six months.
The goal is simple: you buy it once, and you use it on every project you ship.
No subscriptions. No per-site licenses. No upsells. Just a solid foundation you can build on.
Our Approach
We follow three principles when building ForgeDocs:
Realistic over hype. We don’t claim a perfect Lighthouse score across every scenario, because real sites have real content — large images, third-party scripts, and edge cases. What we do claim is a clean foundation: proper image sizing, lazy loading, semantic HTML, and SEO metadata that actually helps search engines understand your pages.
Content-first architecture. Every piece of copy on the site — hero text, feature descriptions, pricing, navigation, footer links — comes from a JSON file. You change content without touching component code.
Built to be extended. ForgeDocs is a starting point, not a locked system. Swap the CMS, change the design tokens, replace the components. The structure stays out of your way.
Who ForgeDocs Is For
ForgeDocs is a good fit if you’re:
- A SaaS founder launching a product with documentation.
- An indie developer who needs a professional site without a designer.
- A small team that wants a consistent design system across marketing, docs, and blog.
- An agency building Astro sites for clients and looking for a reusable base.
It’s probably not a good fit if you need a full CMS-first workflow, a multi-tenant architecture, or a heavily customized editorial experience. ForgeDocs is a theme, not a platform.
Tech Stack
ForgeDocs is built on:
- Astro — static-first, fast by default, with islands architecture when you need interactivity.
- Starlight — Astro’s documentation framework, with built-in search and navigation.
- Bootstrap 5 — utility classes and layout primitives for rapid styling.
- Custom CSS — design tokens, dark mode, and component-level styling.
- Markdown / MDX — for all content.
- Decap CMS (optional) — for editing content from a browser.
No build tools to configure beyond Astro. No external services required. Deploy to Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, Netlify, or any static host.
