AstroCar Review — Car Rental Booking Template for Astro JS

If you run a car rental business, your website has one job: get people to book a vehicle. Most rental sites fail at this because they’re either too slow or too generic.

AstroCar is a different approach. It’s an Astro JS template built specifically for car rental, limousine, and vehicle booking businesses. Static-first, fast by default, and configured entirely through JSON files.

This review covers what’s inside, who it’s for, and whether it’s worth the one-time price.

What Is AstroCar?

AstroCar is a premium Astro JS theme for car rental websites. It includes:

  • Booking form with email integration
  • Fleet gallery with list and detail pages
  • Reservation workflow with payment steps
  • JSON-driven configuration — no hardcoded content
  • Markdown car entries — add new vehicles in one file
  • Astro Picture optimization — responsive, modern image formats
  • RSS and sitemap — built in for SEO
  • Responsive layout — works on desktop, tablet, and mobile

What Makes AstroCar Different

1. Built on Astro — Static First

AstroCar is built with Astro, the static site generator that ships zero JavaScript by default. That means:

  • Fast by default — pages load from any CDN without a server runtime
  • No database — everything is files
  • Deploys free — Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, Netlify, Firebase, or any static host
  • Zero maintenance — no security patches, no plugin updates

For a car rental business, this matters. Your customers want to see available vehicles and book them. They don’t want to wait for a slow website.

2. JSON-Driven Configuration

Every piece of content — site title, navigation, footer, payment info, contact details — is stored in settup.json. You edit the JSON, and the site updates.

This means you don’t need to touch component code to:

  • Change your site title and description
  • Update navigation menus
  • Add or remove payment methods
  • Update contact information
  • Change the cover image for social sharing

If you can edit a JSON file, you can run this theme.

3. Markdown Car Entries

Each vehicle in your fleet is a Markdown file in src/content/car/. Adding a new car means creating a new .md file with frontmatter:

title: 'Alphard'
description: 'Rent a cheap Toyota Alphard car rental in Jakarta'
cover: '/img/car/alphard.webp'
brand: 'Toyota'
car: 'Alphard'
price: '$.95'
durasi: 'day'
capacity: '6'
transmisi: 'A/T'
color: 'Black'
nopol: 'Wifi'

The fleet page, list, and detail pages are generated automatically. No manual HTML editing.

4. Booking Workflow with Payment Steps

The booking page includes a full workflow:

  1. Choose a vehicle
  2. Fill in the order form
  3. Submit
  4. Pay via bank transfer, PayPal, or another method
  5. Send proof of payment
  6. Wait for confirmation

The payment methods and instructions are configured in booking.json. You can add or remove payment options as needed.

5. Email Integration for Bookings

The booking form sends to your email. Once you confirm your email address (via a one-time verification), orders flow into your inbox. No backend server, no database — just email.

6. SEO Foundation

AstroCar handles:

  • Meta title and description per page
  • Open Graph tags for social sharing
  • Twitter card support
  • RSS feed
  • Sitemap XML
  • Canonical URLs

You don’t need to write SEO code. You just fill in the content.

Who AstroCar Is For

AstroCar is a good fit if you’re:

  • A car rental business with a small to medium fleet (5–50 vehicles)
  • A limousine or party bus operator
  • A travel agency offering vehicle rentals
  • A developer building a rental site for a client

It’s probably not a good fit if you need:

  • Real-time availability tracking (this is a website, not a booking engine)
  • Automated payment processing (payments are manual)
  • Integration with a fleet management system
  • Multi-branch location handling

For those cases, you’d need custom development on top of the template.

Installation

Installation is standard for an Astro project:

Terminal window
# Extract the source code
# Open the project folder in a terminal
cd path/to/astrocar
# Install dependencies
npm install
# Start the development server
npm run dev

The site runs at localhost:4321.

For production:

Terminal window
npm run build
npm run preview

The build output goes to dist/, ready to upload to any static host.

Configuration

Configuration happens in three places:

1. astro.config.mjs — set your site URL:

export default defineConfig({
site: 'https://your-domain.com',
});

2. src/consts.ts — set site title and description:

export const SITE_TITLE = 'Your Site Title';
export const SITE_DESCRIPTION = 'Your site description';

3. settup.json — everything else: navigation, footer, payment info, contact details, social links.

Customization

The template is built to be customized:

  • Colors — edit the CSS variables in the styles folder
  • Layout — swap components in src/components/
  • Content — edit JSON and Markdown files
  • Pages — add new pages in src/pages/

If you can write Astro, you can customize anything. If you can only edit JSON and Markdown, you can still run a functional rental site.

Performance

AstroCar builds to static HTML. That means:

  • No server runtime
  • No database queries
  • No JavaScript framework overhead
  • Loads instantly from a CDN

Actual performance depends on your images, hosting, and third-party scripts. Astro gives you a clean foundation — the rest is up to how you use it.

Pricing

AstroCar is available for a one-time purchase on Gumroad. No subscription. No per-site license. Use it on unlimited projects.

Alternatives

If AstroCar isn’t quite right, here are other Astro themes from the same creator:

  • Docuna — Starlight docs + landing + blog
  • Docus — Starlight docs + blog + landing
  • Blacks — Multipurpose portfolio + gallery + blog
  • PaperHouse — Bento portfolio + works + blog + docs

Verdict

AstroCar does one thing well: it gives car rental businesses a fast, static, JSON-driven website with a booking workflow.

It’s not a booking engine. It’s not a fleet management system. It’s a website — and a well-built one.

If that’s what you need, it’s a solid choice.
